The following 30 men from the village of Ruskington, Lincolnshire gave their lives in the First World War and are commemorated on the village’s War Memorials.

BALDOCK, Walter Private 9851. 1st Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment. Killed in action 23 March 1918, aged 31 years.

BARSLEY, Edward ,Private 12789. Army Cyclist Corps, formerly 212 North Midland Division Cyclist Coy (4th Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment on memorial). Died Mesopotamia 11 January 1918, aged 24 years.

BEATTIE, Sydney, Private 202413. 4th Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment. Died in the Lincoln on 19 October 1918, aged 24 years.

CARROTTE, Frederick Henry, L/Corporal 45214. Z Coy, 15th Battalion, Sherwood Foresters (Notts and Derby Regiment). Died of wounds 26 August 1917, aged 26 years.

COCK, Harry Holmes, Private 16576. 8th Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers. Killed in action in Gallipoli, 19 August 1915.

CUNNINGTON, William Christopher, Private 15930. 6th Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment. Died Gallipoli 24 October 1915

FLETCHER, Harry, Private 48831. 7th Battalion, West Yorkshire Regiment. Died 6 October 1918, aged 24 years

FLETCHER, Walter, Private 30446. 1st Battalion, Grenadier Guards. [Formerly: Trooper 3382, Household Battalion] Killed in action 23 August 1918.

GARWELL, Ernest, Corporal 16667. 1st Battalion, Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry. Killed in action 8 July 1915.

HUTCHINSON, Bertram, Private 14392, 6th Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment. Killed in action 17 September 1916. Aged 23.

JACKSON, Harold, L/Corporal 29461. 4th Battalion, Bedfordshire Regiment. Killed in action 7 February 1917, aged 30 years

KIRTON, Wainer, L/Corporal 40591. 10th Battalion, Essex Regiment, formerly 3051 Lincolnshire Regiment. Killed in action 22 October 1916, aged 22 years.

LEWIN, Francis (Frank) Victor, Private 73172. 16th Battalion, Sherwood Foresters (Notts and Derby Regiment), Killed in action 2 August 1917, aged 24 years.

MORLEY, William, Lieutenant. ‘D’ Company, 2/1st Surrey Yeomanry (Queen Mary’s Regiment), attached 10th Battalion, Royal West Surrey Regiment. Died 24 March 1918, aged 28 years.

PURNELL, Edgar, Boy, 1st Class J/34472. HMS Hampshire, Royal Navy. Killed in Action 5th June 1916, aged 17 years.

REAST. John Thomas, Private 1431. 10th Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment. Died of wounds in 20th General Hospital, Camiers on 12th May 1917.

SILSON, Bert, Private, 12015. 99th Coy, Machine Gun Corps (Infantry), formerly 16476 Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment (3rd Battalion on memorial). Killed in action 16th November 1916

SMITH, Benjamin, Private 241558. 5th Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment. Killed in action 29th September 1918.

SMITH, William, Private, Royal Fusiliers. This casualty has not yet been satisfactorily identified. He is not thought to be the brother of Benjamin, k.i.a. 29 September 1918

SPINKS, Morriss, Private S/4/072642. “K” Company, Royal Army Service Corps. Died 15th May 1915, aged 28 years.

START, Frederick Henry, Private 55537 Lincolnshire Yeomanry. Died Palestine 13th February 1918.

THORPE, Arthur, Private 241176 6th Battalion, Sherwood Foresters (Notts and Derby Regiment). Died of wounds 24th April 1917, aged 27 years.

THORPE, William, Private 13767. 7th Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment. Killed in action 18th December 1915.

WAINER, Arthur, Private 32561, 8th Battalion, York and Lancaster Regiment. Killed in action 2nd October 1917, aged 23 years.

WARNE, Harry, Private 11488. 7th Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment. Died of wounds 11th July 1916.

WHITTON, Fred, Private 41183. 11th Battalion, Manchester Regiment, Killed in action 5th October 1917.

WILCOX, John Henry, Gunner 989. 2nd (West Riding) Brigade, Royal Field Artillery. Died 31st January 1916.

WIL[L]SON, Morley Frederick, Private 11520. 7th Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment. Died of wounds 4th March 1916, aged 24 years.

WILSON, William Brewin, W/T Officer, R.N.R., Died from Disease on 25th November 1916, whilst Prisoner of War, aged 20 years.

WRIGHT, Thomas, 2nd Lieutenant. Spec Reserve attached 2nd Battalion, Royal Berkshire Regiment. Killed in action 1st May 1915, aged 25 years.

CLARKE, Leslie William, Private 42613, 9th Battalion, Norfolk Regiment, Died of wounds: 20th November 1918. Aged 19

CLAYDON, George, Corporal 8086, 2nd Battalion, Leicestershire Regiment. Killed in action 15th May 1915. Aged 26.

COUPLAND, Tom, Private 1340, 7th Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment. Killed in action 2nd March 1916. Aged 24.

DAWSON, Sidney, Sapper, 108878, 416th Company, Royal Engineers. Died of wounds 30 August 1918.

PATTINSON William Frederick, Captain, 404th (2/2nd Highland) Field Company, Royal Engineers. Died in Queen Alexandra Military Hospital, Millbank, Middlesex, 21 May 1922.

ROBINSON, Percy, Private 8732, 2nd Battalion, Leicestershire Regiment. Killed in action 11 March 1915, aged 27.

SIMPSON, John Robert, Lance Corporal 2163, 1/4th Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment. Died of wounds (In the Field) 14 December 1916.

WADDINGHAM, John Charles, Private 14570, 1st Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment. Killed in action 4th June 1915. Aged 21.
